Marvel TV Chief Jeph Loeb Talks Agent Carter Revival
"Will Agent Carter Return for a TV Movie?"
As first reported by
TV Line, Marvel Television chief Jeph Loeb announced he would be willing to bring back
Marvel's Agent Carter as soon as possible as a television movie special if the right network partner could be found. Loeb explained that Marvel Television produces content at the request of its network partners, and does not have any direct decision-making in the process - unlike Marvel Studios.
"[Marvel Studios people] get to say, ‘In 2019, were going to bring you
Captain Marvel,’ and when it shows up in a movie theater, [no theater owner] is going, ‘Whoa, hold on a second — we didn’t say that was OK,'” Loeb told
TV Line.“What Marvel Television does every day is it connects with our partners — ABC, FX, Fox, Netflix, Freeform — and
they tell
us when they would like it. So the short answer is: Sure, if someone wants to call and say, ‘We want a two-hour
Agent Carter for May 2017,’
boom. We’ll put together the greatest
Agent Carter movie we can.”
Marvel's Agent Carter, which starred Hayley Atwell as the British spy and former World War II Captain America confidante, ran two seasons on ABC as a spin-off of sorts to
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The show was cancelled this past spring in a move that surprised the show's loyal viewers, despite the low ratings. Over its two seasons,
Agent Carter had an 18-episode run as a replacement series during the winter hiatus period of
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The show now has the unique distinction of being the first Marvel live-action property to be cancelled - but will it return in some form?
“Every person who’s reading this sat in a movie theater and saw Phil Coulson die in
The Avengers, and we’re now about to start our 67th episode, on our way to 100 episodes, of
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., none of which would have happened without Phil Coulson and Clark Gregg. I’m incredibly grateful that Hayley has been bold enough to say that she would love to play that part again. So… ‘I hope so’ is the short answer.” Loeb explained to
TV Line.
Though not currently involved with
Marvel's Agent Carter, Hayley Atwell can still be seen on ABC this fall. Atwell will be starring in a new series called
Conviction, as a lawyer and former First Daughter who is blackmailed into heading a unit which re-examines potential cases of wrongful conviction. The show premieres in October.
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return for its fourth season in September.
