Matt Lucas Joins Cast of Doctor Who

"Nardole returns to the Tardis"
For Doctor Who fans who loved Nardole, the character Matt Lucas portrayed in the show’s 2015 Christmas Day special “The Husbands of River Song,” you’re in luck. Lucas has signed on to reprise the Nardole role in the upcoming tenth season (or tenth series, as the Brits call them) of Doctor Who. Lucas will co-star alongside Peter Capaldi, continuing as the Doctor, and Pearl Mackie, as the Doctor's new companion, Bill. Doctor Who showrunner, writer, and producer Steven Moffat expressed his enthusiasm for Lucas’s return to the series. “Delighted and slightly amazed to be welcoming Matt Lucas back on to the Tardis—and this time it’s not just for Christmas, he’s sticking around,” said Moffat. “One of the greatest comedy talents on Planet Earth is being unleashed on all of time and space.” dr-who-title-card-bbc-season-10 In a statement on the official Doctor Who blog, Lucas also shared his excitement in inimitable British fashion. “I’m chuffed to bits that Nardole is returning to the TARDIS for some more adventures. I loved acting with Peter and I’m excited to work with Pearl.” BBC viewers who don’t watch Doctor Who will still recognize veteran English comedic actor Lucas for his work on the British sketch series Little Britain. American audiences will also recognize Lucas for his portrayal of Tweedledee and Tweedledum in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. In addition to Lucas, Stephanie Hyam (Peaky Blinders) will appear in a guest-starring role this upcoming season. Doctor Who will next appear on the BBC in December 2016 with a Christmas Special, followed by the new tenth season (or series, if you prefer) in 2017.
