Ever since remasters of Final Fantasy X, X-2 and the Kingdom Hearts games came out, Square-Enix fans have been clamoring hard for Final Fantasy XII to be the next remaster announced. Today, those fans got their wish. Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is officially announced for the Playstation 4 with a 2017 release. The trailer with the remastered visuals is available to watch below.
This is not your normal remaster effort by Square-Enix however. Final Fantasy XII is getting new gameplay mechanics with the Zodiac job system along with the changes that were in the Japanese only International version. There is also going to be options for English or Japanese voices as well as the original or new background music recorded specifically for The Zodiac Age. Shorter load times, turbo mode and auto saving is also planned for this version.
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is currently slated for a 2017 release for the Playstation 4, but I won't be surprised if Vita and PC versions follow suit later next year if past remasters are any indication.
