Superman Prequel Krypton Closing in on Pilot Order at Syfy
"More phallic imagery?"
If, for some reason, you were wondering about the status of the long-developing
Krypton series, wonder no more.
THR reports that Syfy is closing in on a pilot order deal for the Superman prequel, which was first announced last December.
The outlet has also learned that Damian Kindler (
Sleepy Hollow,
Sanctuary) has joined the project as executive producer and showrunner, and Colm McCarthy (
Peaky Blinders) will direct the show’s pilot episode. As previously
reported, David S. Goyer (
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) will executive produce the series.

Krypton will take place two generations before the titular planet is destroyed. The series will center on Superman’s grandfather during a time when the House of El has been “ostracized and shamed,” and will see him struggle to “redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.”
I don’t think anyone is particularly excited by the idea of seeing a prequel to Superman’s story, but I’m interested in seeing Braniac make an appearance/be foreshadowed (because you know they won’t be able to resist). Mister Mxyzptlk, Doomsday, and Mongul could also feature into the series in some capacity – at the very least, we’ll see some of General Zod’s ancestors.
Final thought: I actually really liked Kindler's
Sanctuary, so maybe there's hope for this.
