The Tick Revival Casts Jackie Earle Haley as The Terror
"Less Cobra Commander, more Dr. Doom?"
One of
The Tick’s villainous foes has been cast.
According to
Deadline, Jackie Earle Haley is joining the series as The Terror, “a criminal mastermind… whose incredible will power and tenacity have powered an underworld syndicate for decades." Haley joins Peter Serafinowicz as the Tick, Griffin Newman as Arthur, the Tick’s sidekick, and Valorie Curry as Dot, Arthur’s sister. The series will focus on the Tick as he recovers from memory loss and fights for justice.

The Terror was previously played by Armin Shimerman in the 2001 live-action series, but with the “
darker and more grounded" direction of the reboot, it’s hard to say if the Tick could make a
prank phone call to Haley's spin on the character. Still, Ben Edlund’s involvement makes me hopeful the reboot won’t fall into
the usual traps of the “grounded” approach to the superhero genre.
Haley is also set to play Sayre, a vampire leader, in the feature adaptation of Stephen King’s
The Dark Tower. Along with his already announced role as Odin Quincannon on AMC’s
Preacher, it looks like the actor has a busy few years ahead.
The Tick is being executive produced by Barry Josephson and Ben Edlund, creator of the Tick's previous animated and live-action series.
