Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg will ride again. After gaining fans and traction with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, Wright and Pegg have finally gotten a third comedy in motion: The World’s End. The long-planned third film in a trilogy of comedies known as the "Blood and Ice Cream" trilogy, (“Dead” and “Fuzz” were the first two), “World’s End” is being sold as follows:
20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.
So essentially, it sounds like what would predate The Hangover, but British and far more entertaining/funny/sharp. Deadline reports that like the past two Wright/Pegg collaborations, Nick Frost has already been confirmed for the cast.
Both Wright and Pegg have kept busy since making “Dead” and “Fuzz”—Pegg went on to star in Star Trek and Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol while Wright gained new fans directing Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and producing Attack the Block. Pegg and Frost also teamed up for director Greg Mottola in last year's sci-fi comedy Paul.
Working Title has agreed to distribute the film set to begin shooting in September for a Spring 2013 release.
