Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth Join New Star Trek Series

"Another big move that should please fans."
Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth will serve as executive producers on the new Star Trek series. Roddenberry is the son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and President of Roddenberry Entertainment, while Trevor Roth is the COO of Roddenberry Entertainment. “Gene Roddenberry, the Great Bird of the Galaxy, left a finely feathered nest for all who love Star Trek to enjoy,” said showrunner Bryan Fuller in a statement. "And it is only fitting that Rod Roddenberry and Roddenberry Entertainment join our new Trek adventure to ensure that his father’s legacy of hope for the future and infinite diversity in infinite combinations runs through our tales as Gene Roddenberry intended.” [caption id="attachment_80758" align="aligncenter" width="599"]USS Enterprise - Star Trek (Image via CNET.)[/caption] "Moral dilemmas, human issues, complex characters, and a genuine sense of optimism: These are the cornerstones of Star Trek and are what have made it such an influential and beloved franchise for the last 50 years,” Rod Roddenberry said. “While I will always be humbled by its legacy and the legions of fans who are its guardians, it’s a genuine honor to be joining a team of imaginative and incredibly capable individuals whose endeavor it is to uphold the tenets of Star Trek’s legacy while bringing it to audiences in a new era and on a contemporary platform.” Roddenberry and Roth join previously attached EP’s Heather Kadin (Limitless) and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek into Darkness), along with showrunner Bryan Fuller (Hannibal). It was announced last week that Nicholas Meyer (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan) would serve as writer and consulting producer. Star Trek's premiere episode will debut on CBS in early 2017. The first episode and the rest of the season will then be released in the United States on CBS All Access. Featured image via comicvine.gamespot.com's Clark_El.
