Syfy Renews The Expanse For Season 2
"Does this signal a return to form for Syfy?"
Syfy’s
The Expanse has been renewed for a second season, according to
Variety.
Planned for early 2017, the second season will consist of 13 episodes (as opposed to the premiere season’s 10). On the series so far, Dave Howe, President of Syfy and Chiller, had this to say:
“
The Expanse is firing on all cylinders creatively, building a passionate fan base among viewers and critics alike, and delivering on Syfy’s promise of smart, provocative science fiction entertainment. We can’t wait to see where the story takes us in season two.”

Based on the book series of the same name from James S. A. Corey,
The Expanse takes place two hundred years in the future, a time when the solar system is already completely colonized. The show centers on Josephus Miller (Thomas Jane), a detective on the case of a missing woman, and James Holden (Steven Strait), the officer of an ice freighter that becomes embroiled in a planet-threatening accident, who are brought together “in a race across the solar system that will expose the greatest conspiracy in human history.”
The series is supposedly Syfy’s most expensive show to date, and the trailer (attached below) definitely reflects the show’s inflated budget. However, I’m always skeptical of the quality of sci-fi series, especially given the era of peak TV’s tendency for hyperbole. Do you think The Expanse is a return to form for Syfy? Or are you more interested in their upcoming earth-based series Harrow County?
