New Season of Samurai Jack to Air Next Year

Cartoon fans, rejoice! On Wednesday, Adult Swim announced that a new season of its Emmy-winning animated series Samurai Jack will air in 2016. Adult Swim uploaded a five-second teaser to its official YouTube page to hype up fans for the show's return. The description of the YouTube video says that the new season of Samurai Jack is currently in production at Cartoon Network Studios in Los Angeles (under the watchful eye of executive producer and show creator Genndy Tartakovsky), and it will premiere on Adult Swim's Toonami block next year. The martial arts sci-fi animated series originally aired from 2001 to 2004 with four seasons and a total of 52 episodes. Cartoon Network cancelled Samurai Jack in 2004 due to low ratings, and the season four finale had an unresolved ending. In its original run, the Emmy-winning series starred geek-world voice acting icons Phil LaMarr (Futurama, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Justice League, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) as the time-traveling title character and Mako (Avatar: The Last Airbender) as Jack's nemesis, the evil wizard Aku (Aku's name literally means evil in Japanese). Samurai Jack was trending on Twitter on Wednesday. Some fans raised the question about who would play Aku, because his voice actor Mako passed away in 2006. Other fans noted that voice actor Greg Baldwin (The Legend of Korra, Star Wars: The Clone Wars), a student of Mako's, played Aku for the video game "Cartoon Network Universe: FusionFall" and took over Mako's role as Uncle Iroh for the final season of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
