Johnny Knoxville Developing Hawaiian Dick Adaptation

Variety has learned that Hawaiian Dick, a comic book series created by B. Clay Moore and Steven Griffin, is being developed by Johnny Knoxville at NBC. Along with 3 Arts’ Michael Rotenberg (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Eric Gitter (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), and David Janollari (Six Feet Under), Knoxville will be executive producing the one hour series, which is being written by Paul Lovett and David Elliot (G.I. (Image via Amazon.)[/caption] Hawaiian Dick takes place in a noir version of Hawaii in the 1950s. A stateside cop named Byrd is exiled there, and soon finds himself embroiled in “a dark and dangerous paradise,” where threats aren’t always human in nature. According to Wikipedia, “the Hawaii of Hawaiian Dick is…home to all of Hawaii's legendary supernatural anomalies, each able to manifest when the time is right,” which could lead to a very entertaining and episodic story structure for the series. This is not the first time Knoxville (Jackass) has tried to get a Hawaiian Dick project off the ground. At one point, a feature film adaptation starring Knoxville was optioned by New Line Cinema. However, it doesn’t look like he’ll be appearing in front of the camera for the series.
