TV Line reports that NBC has renewed its freshman supernatural drama Grimm for a second season with a 22-episode order. Ever since its late premiere in October 2011, Grimm has been a continuous surprise with an average of 6.4 million viewers and a respectable rating—for a show on Friday night—in the demographic of adults aged 18-49.
Created by David Greenwalt, Jim Kouf and Stephen Carpenter, Grimm centers on homicide detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) of Portland, Oregon. Nick is a Grimm, a human being who can see the fairy tale creatures living among us for what they are, and is entrusted with the mission of hunting down the bad ones. As a cop, his partner is Hank (Russell Hornsby), but as a Grimm, he relies on Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell), a "reformed" creature.
The modest hit is a rare point of pride this season for NBC, which has seen most of its freshman dramas—The Playboy Club, The Firm, Free Agents and Prime Suspect—canceled prematurely. Grimm‘s next new episode airs on March 30, 9 p.m. EST.
