FX Orders Series Created by Donald Glover
Donald Glover is making a move from
Community to FX with a new comedy series he created called,
Atlanta, according to
Variety. The series revolves around two cousins on their way up in Atlanta’s rap music scene. FX ordered 10 episodes of the half-hour series with Glover in a lead role and as an executive producer.
Brian Tyree Henry, Lakeith Lee Stanfield and Zazie Beetz will also having starring roles, with the series scheduled to air next year.
Atlanta will draw from Glover’s own experiences as a musician, actor and writer. Glover has already had quite a busy year touring as his rap alter-ego, Childish Gambino, and he with a small part in the box office hit,
The Martian.
Atlanta will also be produced by Paul Simms for FX Productions and Dianne McGunigle of MGMT Entertainment. Hiro Murai is on as a director. Glover’s writing credits also include NBC’s
30 Rock.
It will be interesting to see how this series fits into FX’s lineup that has featured mostly hour-long dramas as of late (
Fargo,
The Bastard Executioner,
American Horror Story, etc), or if it will be kicked over to their sister channel, FXX, which is more known for its comedy lineup.
