In
Legends of Tomorrow, Hawkgirl (aka Kendra Saunders) and Hawkman (aka Carter Hall) are reincarnations of ancient Egyptian royalty reborn generation after generation. With the power of the Egyptian Hawk God Horus,
the two are able to sprout wings from their backs, deviating from previous iterations of the characters where their wings were either non-retractable or had to be taken on and off.
Hawkgirl, played by Ciara Renée, was first seen in her civilian guise of Kendra Saunders in the season one finale of
The Flash. However, like other
Legends of Tomorrow characters Jay Jackson (Franz Drameh) and Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill), Falk Hentschel’s Hawkman is a newcomer to the shared TV universe. The other previously introduced members of the
Legends of Tomorrow team include Sara Lance/White Canary (Caity Lotz), Ray Palmer/the Atom (Brandon Routh), Dr. Martin Stein (Victor Garber), Mick Rory/Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell), and Leonard Snart/Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller). The group will be going up against Casper Crump’s Vandal Savage.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is being executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg, and Sarah Schechter. Hawkgirl and Hawkman will first be seen in crossover episodes of
Arrow and
The Flash before
Legends of Tomorrow premieres at midseason.
