Despite the naming & new mechanics being a little to similar to Blizzard's premier card game, CD Projekt Red has finally announced the first big expansion for The Witcher III: Wild Hunt. Subtitled Hearts of Stone, this expansion has Geralt tracking down a bandit captain named Olgeird von Everec, who supposedly has immortality. The teaser trailer can be seen below where Geralt is already in a predicament as we wonder how he will get out of this new situation.
While some of Hearts of Stone will be taken place in Oxenfurt, the map is indeed going to get expanded as the developers expanded since the season pass was announced. Along with new characters, storylines and a romance option with a returning character from previous games, a new "Runeswords" gameplay mechanic will also be introduced in the expansion, but CD Projekt Red hasn't shown off much of it yet. They also said that the new content is about ten hours long, requires a level 30+ Geralt to play and costs $19.99 for non-season pass holders digitally.
There's also a limited retail version of The Witcher III's Hearts of Stone expansion, which includes new physical Gwent cards and a Gwent manual for those (like me) that didn't get into the card game that much in the main quest.
The Witcher III: Hearts of Stone comes out on October 13th for the Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC. After spending a hundred plus hours with the main quest, I'm ready to return to the world of The Wild Hunt once again for a little bit even with all the other big games out this fall.
