Agents of SHIELD Spinoff Lands Pilot Order at ABC
"Is this a smart move?"
Looks like that
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD spinoff is happening, after all. Despite development being stalled earlier this year,
Variety reports that ABC is close to finalizing a pilot order for the potential series, which will be entitled
Marvel’s Most Wanted.
Adrianne Palicki’s Bobbi Morse (AKA Mockingbird) and Nick Blood’s Lance Hunter will be the focus of the pilot and prospective series, with
SHIELD executive producer Jeffrey Bell and series writer Paul Zybyszewski spearheading the project.

ABC has yet to decide on a premiere date or method of introduction, but comments that the “series is not a spinoff….but rather an entirely new project solely focused on the two characters” make a backdoor pilot on
Agents of SHIELD slightly unlikely.
While the news may be bittersweet for fans of their inclusion on
Agents of SHIELD, the showrunners have taken steps to compensate for Palicki and Blood’s anticipated absence.
Henry Simmons (Mack) and
Luke Mitchell (Lincoln) have both been upgraded to series regulars and
Constance Zimmer was recently announced as a recurring character for the show’s upcoming season (
premiering on September 29). In addition, the series will also be establishing their own spin on Marvel’s Secret Warriors, as
Variety learned at San Diego Comic-Con.
Clearly, there is still capacity for shows to spin off of one another at ABC (
unlike the CW), but with multiple upcoming Netflix series,
Agent Carter, and
Agents of SHIELD all tying into the Marvel cinematic universe, is this a smart move? And how will the series distinguish itself from
Agents of SHIELD?
