NBC Working on TV Show Based on “Red” Films
"The retired extremely dangerous operatives will have new adventures on the small screeen"
NBC has announced that they are making a TV show based on the film series
RED that was written by brothers Jon and Erich Hoeber. The show will utilize the conceit of the films, following several "Retired Extremely Dangerous" CIA operatives as they are hunted down by their former employers (played in the movies by Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren, and hunted by Karl Urban). According to
Deadline, the show will "be set in a more grounded and authentic world, focusing on the characters’ darkly hilarious struggles to survive civilian life as they simultaneously fight for and against the very organization that threw them out."
Whether this means the show will be more faithful to the original comic book series by Warren Ellis, which was more authentic and dark, but far from comedic. The TV series probably will not follow the comic book's tone that much, nor is it likely that the film cast will return.
The show will be executive produced by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian.
