Emma Watson is ready for the next phase of her career. After eight films as Hermione Granger, she has been making the rounds with My Week with Marilyn and now news comes that she's in final negotiations to headline Beauty and the Beast for none other than Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth).
Originally planning just to produce “Beast," Del Toro must have gotten some strong images in his head, so much so that he decided to take up the director’s chair and write a treatment of the script that screenwriter Andrew Davies (Bridget Jones’s Diary) will build off of.
The news gives a sense of Watson’s future schedule as well as Del Toro’s. The visual mastermind is currently in the middle of shooting (finally) Pacific Rim for Warner Bros. Watson will first appear in the upcoming adaptation of The Perks of Being a Wallflower as well as re-team with her “Potter” director David Yates for Your Voice in My Head.
Given her productive schedule plus del Toro’s commitment to Pacific Rim—set for a summer 2013 release date—we wouldn’t anticipate a start date for “Beast” any time soon.
