With a $1.5-million budget and a worldwide gross of almost $100 million, last year’s Insidious put director James Wan in the category of untouchable horror directors. He first made box-office magic with the original Saw and his next try is a project formerly titled The Conjuring.
The Hollywood Reporter relays that Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are in the final stages of becoming the film's stars, married demonologists Lorraine and Ed Warren. These two characters are perhaps best known for being involved in the case of the Amityville Horror, upon which several books and films have been made. "The Untitled Warren Files Project" will focus on the couple as they investigate a haunted farmhouse in Rhode Island. The couple who lives there will be played by Ron Livingston (Office Space) and Lili Taylor (High Fidelity).
The events of the film are based on the true of the Perron family in the 1970s. New Line is producing based on a script from Chad and Carey Hayes.
Wilson also starred in Insidious and Farmiga isn’t a stranger to the horror genre either; Orphan saw her playing a mother figure alongside Peter Sarsgaard. The film aims to begin shooting in North Carolina this March, so while it could be ready later this year, it’s more likely to bow in early 2013, similar to Insidious.
