Ben Whishaw is Your New Q in ‘Skyfall’
MI6 had a security leak today, as it's been confirmed that
Ben Whishaw will be taking on the role of Q in the latest
James Bond film,
Skyfall. The 31 year-old Brit will be stepping into the shoes previously filled by John Cleese, who himself inherited the role from Desmond Llewelyn, following his death in 1999.
The gadget wunderkind Q has been a staple of the Bond franchise, appearing in 19 of the 22 proper Bond movies but was conspicuously absent in both
Casino Royale and
Quantum of Solace. Granted, the inventions he's come up with, like a dart-shooting wrist watch or the aptly named shark gun, wouldn't have meshed very well with the Craig-era reboot. It's probably even money that Q just gives Bond an iPad loaded with espionage-based apps.
The
BBC reported that Whishaw's agent confrimed his role in the film, but many others remain a mystery, with speculation continuing for what parts
Ralph Fiennes,
Helen McCrory and
Ola Rapace will play in the latest Bond adventure.
Daniel Craig and
Judi Dench are returning for the 23rd film in the franchise, and Oscar-winner
Javier Bardem was
confirmed as the film's villain earlier this month.
