Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer to Debut this Week
"The New "Star Wars" teaser trailer will be shown at select (unconfirmed as to how many) Regal Cinemas this week!"
Star Wars fans rejoice! A rumor quickly circulated this morning (pre-empted yesterday by a post on
reddit) and has been
confirmed by Regal cinemas early this afternoon. Unlike every other massive trailer drop,
Star Wars: The Force Awakens has taken an unprecedented leap by positioning the trailer before EVERY movie playing on Friday - Sunday. While the rumors circulating the debut have speculated a cap of 100 theaters, and stipulations such as
Big Hero 6 being played as the first movie of the day, currently, only a list of nine theaters are confirmed for the trailer. And that list is as follows:
Irvine, CA – Edwards Irvine Spectrum 22 & IMAX
San Diego, CA – Edwards Mira Mesa Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX
Atlanta, GA – Regal Atlantic Station Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX
Chicago, IL – Regal City North Stadium 14 IMAX & RPX
New York, NY – Regal Union Square Stadium 14
Warrington, PA – Regal Warrington Crossing Stadium 22 & IMAX
Knoxville, TN – Regal Pinnacle Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX
Houston, TX – Edwards Houston Marq’E Stadium 23 IMAX & RPX
Seattle, WA – Regal Thornton Place Stadium 14 & IMAX
Thanksgiving Weekend is the biggest movie holiday of the year, so for Disney/LucasFilms to do a blanket premier ensures that their trailer will have an enormous audience. Forgoing the more-recent trend of releasing online, it seems the studio behind J.J. Abrams' latest film would like to ensure that the images appear on the largest screen possible. When a full list of theaters is finally released, I am sure we can expect some massive box office numbers on top of the already-huge predictions.
