‘Thor 2’ Moves to November 2013
***UPDATE: Patty Jenkins has been officially confirmed as the director of
Thor 2, according to
Deadline.
---
Thor will be the first Marvel superhero to test his mettle in the holiday season;
Thor 2 has just been moved to November 15, 2013. Disney likely did not want to overload its Summer 2013 slate due to the recent move of its once-troubled
Lone Ranger to May 31, 2013, a film originally scheduled for December 2012.
Thor 2 has been searching for a director, with the latest news that
Patty Jenkins (
Monster)
was in talks to take the reigns of the God of Thunder's story. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige confirmed as much to
Entertaiment Weekly a few weeks back, but no official announcement has been made. Feige did have this to say about the film:
"(
Thor 2 will)
primarily be the journey of that character, of (Thor, played by
Chris Hemsworth)
and Jane Foster (
Natalie Portman)
and how the new dynamic with his father (Odin, played by
Anthony Hopkins)
is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds."The November move shows Disney feels good enough about the film to make it a focal point of the holidays, as this has been the "Twilight" and "Harry Potter" films' weekend of choice in the past. If
Thor 2 does unusually well in this spot, more superheroes could find themselves bypassing the summer.
On July 26, 2013,
Thor 2's original release date, Disney has made plans to debut its
Phineas and Ferb movie based on the popular kids cartoon.
