A sequel to 2010's Transformers: War for
Cybertron has been revealed, entitled Fall
of Cybertron.
War for Cybertron was, arguably, the best Transformers video game released to
date, due largely to having a reasonable development cycle and budget, as well as not
being forced to release alongside a film or TV series as per standard for
licence-based games. While I can’t
imagine it sold anywhere near as many copies as the abysmal train wreck of mediocrity that
was the Dark of the Moon film-game released this year, it is nice to know
Activision is still allowing High Moon to geek-out once again with the
Transformers through the Cybertron titles.
Those unaware of War for Cybertron’s key selling point (at least to TF fans)
should know it was the first Transformers game based on the main canon
storyline, told through the much more niche (but nonetheless hardcore) Transformers comics. While War for Cybertron
was set during the time before the Autobots and Decepticons began their all-out
war, the sequel will follow the initial conflict that ultimately spanned for a
million years and finally lead to the more well known story of the
Transformers leaving their destroyed world and landing on earth.
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron will be releasing in 2012, although a specific
release window has yet to be announced.
