Disney’s Newest Princess, Moana, To Debut In 2016
"Which means two more years of your kids singing 'Let It Go'"
Closely following the release of
Frozen last year, Disney announced the name and date of its next animated princess movie -
Moana - expected to debut in 2018. But, after a Spring, Summer, and Fall of kids still obsessed with talking snowmen and ice magic, Disney's next spunky heroine has gotten a nudge closer to us.

Moana - their 56th animated feature - will officially arrive in late 2016 and take place in the ancient world of Oceania in the South Pacific. The studio describes the movie as "a sweeping, CG-animated comedy-adventure about a spirited teenager on an impossible mission to fulfill her ancestors' quest." The titular Polynesian character sees Disney attempting to add more diversity to its Princess line-up alongside the likes of Pocahontas and Tiana.
The official plot synopsis is as follows: "In the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania, Moana, a born navigator, sets sail in search of a fabled island. During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore."
And if you are still not convinced,
Moana will be directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, the duo behind little movies like
Aladdin,
The Little Mermaid and
The Princess and the Frog. "Moana is indomitable, passionate and a dreamer with a unique connection to the ocean itself,” said Musker of the heroine. “She's the kind of character we all root for, and we can't wait to introduce her to audiences.”
And I think I speak for most when I say we can't wait to meet her.
Moana opens in theaters in late 2016.
