TNT's alien-themed show Falling Skies is set to rank as basic cable’s number one drama of the summer among adults 18-49 and 25-54, as well as the top new series in total viewers. The network made the announcement via a press release around the same time Fox ordered a pilot for the alien-themed show Stranger Planet.
Falling Skies — which follows history professor Tom Mason (Noah Wyle) and his family through the aftermath of an alien invasion — has been sold in at least seventy five television markets around the world and has already been renewed for a second season. Nationally, its June 19 premiere drew more than 5.9 million viewers, making it the year's biggest launch for a cable series while the first season averaged 6.9 million viewers (Live+7).
Stranger Planet, the fall 2012 alien project under development for Fox, will center on an L.A. cop, who accidentally discovers the existence of aliens living among us and must team up with two of them to solve intergalactic mysteries on Earth. The series is produced by Warner Bros. TV and was created by Matthew Miller (of Chuck's fame) who is likely to be writer and executive producer.
