While initially planned for launch, the co-op portion of next
week’s Warhammer 40k Space Marine has been
left out until October.
Luckily, this is a good thing, as it has allowed Relic Entertainment to focus their time
polishing the single and multiplayer portions of the game and add the co-op as
a free piece of DLC when it is good and ready. Space Marine is the first action
title Relic has developed set in the Warhammer universe. They are well
known for working with the licence through their popular RTS series Dawn of War,
so I am very interested and excited to see how Space Marine shapes up as I will
be reviewing it next week. I am not only a 40k fan, but I own every
single Dawn of War game too, safe it's to say
I'm a fan of Relic as well.
Since pre-ordering Space Marine gets you access to the demo before anyone else,
I've already had a taste of what it offers. It seems to be one
heck of a fun and frenetic game that definitely does its licence justice. Expect intricate details in my upcoming review.
The co-op is called Exterminatus. Once released, it will include two unique
scenarios that can be played with up to four players in a survival wave-like encounter
where various Orks and Chaos enemies will run at you. The better you do, the longer you live and the more points you make. I
hope the mode is similar to Dawn of War 2's Last Stand as I've easily sunk over
a 100 hours.
Space Marine releases on September 6th. This is also my birthday. I was
literally born to play this game.
