As it always does, this year’s MTV Video Music Awards served as a hot topic of discussion. Folks might be chatting up Lady Gaga’s drag routine as Jo Calderone or Adele’s powerful rendition of “Someone Like You,” but film fans will be talking about something else around the water cooler.
A brief teaser for The Hunger Games, based on Suzanne Collins’ novel of the same name, debuted last night towards the end of the ceremony with a brief intro from Oscar nominee and consequent Hollywood "it" girl Jennifer Lawrence, who stars in the film alongside Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson.
In the clip, we see Lawrence as the film’s protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, running through a forest and trying to escape from what look like burning trees falling down. Narration in the form of a motivational speech from Hemsworth's Gale Hawthorne, Katniss' best friend from home, plays in voiceover. She then shoots an arrow at a target and the clip cuts to the arrow intersecting with the film’s logo and title.
It’s clear that the teaser is more for fans of the series than those who aren’t familiar with the book. In any case, buzz will continue to build among the fan community, but those who are on the fence about it can hope for future teasers and trailers to bring a bit more excitement.
