Gears of War 3 Drops Ban Hammer, Launches in 3D

Epic's much anticipated final installment in the Gears of War franchise is scheduled to hit shelves on September 20th, but not for those who just can't wait to leak an early build of the game.  Epic claims that they have software in place that will allow them to track down anyone who spoils one of the industry's most anticipated shooters.

While some of the Gears faithful play only for the skull-crushing curb stomps and the grim satisfaction of their own personal chainsaw massacres, there are also those of us who appreciate the time and effort put into the game's rich storyline and characters.  It's good to see that Epic is taking a hardline approach to punishing those who leak these crucial details from their surefire blockbuster hit, but it remains to be seen how effective the threat of their ban hammer will be at deterring leaks.

Not only will Epic be more than willing to bash a few heads to maintain the integrity of their work, but they plan to ship Gears 3 with stereoscopic 3D support.  While the Xbox 360 itself isn't nearly on par with the Playstation 3 in terms of 3D support, it is capable of rendering 3D graphics, just at lower resolutions.  Epic expects the next Xbox Development Kit (XDK) to include better 3D support, which will push Gears 3's 3D graphics even further.  The prospect of blasting your way through the Locust horde in 3D is exciting, but it begs the question: What kind of shooter are you playing where you have to wear more headgear than the actual characters getting shot at?  If you had to put together a PSA detailing reasons on why it's smart to wear a helmet, Marcus Fenix would NOT be your poster boy (Or should I say man).
