Casting Notes: Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom

Quite a few new voice actors have been announced for next summer's Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom, the sequel to the 2008 film Kung Fu Panda, in a new press release. These cast members are Emmy Award nominee Victor Garber (television’s Alias, action star Jean-Claude Van Damme (Double Impact), and BAFTA nominee Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). The former voice cast will also return to the project.

Garber and Van Damme will portray new masters, Thundering Rhino and Croc, respectively. Yeoh will play a goat who also happens to be the Soothsayer. In addition to revealing new actors in the cast, the press release also gives more details on Gary Oldman’s role in the film. He will play a villainous peacock named Lord Shen. He is the leader of bandits that fight against Po (voiced by Jack Black).

Considering how the first film made over $200 million in the states, “Kaboom,” set for release on June 6, 2011, should be a hit with audiences across the world. In addition, the first film was surprisingly good. It had a fun story, great voice acting, and a shockingly strong story about overcoming obstacles. Hopefully this sequel can recapture the magic of the first film.
