Walt Disney Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer purchased a Bill Marsilii and Terry Rossio-penned screenplay for a whopping $3.5 million.
Variety reports that Lightspeed, the name of the screenplay purchased, follows a pilot taking his ship across a “galaxy on the brink of war” upon making the Earth Interstellar Racing Team. Marsilli has little writing experience, with Déjà Vu being his only film writing credit. On the other hand, Rossio has made quite an indent on the film industry already. He was nominated for an Academy Award for co-writing the script to Shrek and also co-wrote wrote the first three “Pirates” films (plus the upcoming fourth), as well as the ones for Aladdin.
The film might not sound like a classic in the making, but remember that Bruckheimer and Disney are known for their blockbuster pairings such as the National Treasure and “Pirates” films. Keeping that in mind, Lightspeed sounds like it could be a fun, sci-fi oriented film that captures moviegoers across the nation.
