Comic-Con TV Panels: Penny Dreadful, Community, Hannibal

joel-mchale-gillian-jacobs-jim-rash-community-comic-con San Diego Comic-Con kicked off this Thursday and we’ve got some of our favorite television panels for your viewing pleasure. “What I think the show is about is the monster in all of us,” said John Logan in the panel for the Showtime series, Penny Dreadful. Logan, the show’s creator was joined by co-starts Josh Hartnett, Reeve Carney, and Harry Treadaway in a fantastic panel moderated by actress and super-fan Aisha Tyler. The hour-long conversation touched on many season one highlights and mysteries as well as teases for the next season, which sound quite intriguing. Among those are Logan’s desires to explore even more literary works in the series future like, The Island of Dr. Moreau, a tease on The Creature’s self-assigned name (it’s a dead poet), and a promise for more backstory-focused episodes (was Ethan bitten by a werewolf or is his lycanthropy a genetic trait?). Even though the fabulous Eva Green was absent, Logan provided the obligatory, adulatory shout out “All hail Eva Green.” We sure do. Watch the panel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFYrWp17Qe8 NBC’s Hannibal panel was missing its lead actors Mads Mikkelsen, Hugh Dancy and Laurence Fishburne, however with some of the cast (Caroline Dhavernas, Scott Thompson, Aaron Abrams, and – spoiler – Raul Esparza) present along with Creator Bryan Fuller, Director David Slade, and producers Steven Lightfoot and Martha DeLaurentis makes a formidably stacked panel, moderated by Jonathan Ross. Developments discussed for the next season include Chilton’s role in future episodes, Eddie Izzard reprising his role in a Dr. Gideon flashback, and introducing more characters from the novels. And on the topic of adaptation, will Clarice Sterling be making her way to the show anytime soon? Watch the panel to find out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhRLSCjufJA “With Season 6 of Community, you'll be watching it the way you always watched it, only this time it's legal.” And with that Dan Harmon and company (executive producer Chris McKenna, writer Dino Stamatopoulos - AKA Starburns, Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, and Jim Rash) make a triumphant return to Comic-Con. Since the show’s revival is a relatively recent development there is a lot of focus on the deal with Yahoo! and interest about the series’ future. Will everybody be back for the sixth season? Does change in platform pressure the writers to push boundaries even more? When can we expect it back? Some of the details are still unclear, but there is no question that fans will be anxiously anticipating its Yahoo Screen debut. #Six Seasons and a Movie! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KCLyX55kXE
