Dark Horse Announces 12 Creator-Owned Series

Twelve days in a row, Dark Horse Comics debuted 12 new series via various media partners. These series will premiere in late 2014 and throughout 2015. Here is a quick peak at each of them.     First up is Colder: The Bad Seed, a sequel to the creepy horror series. Written by Paul Tobin (Bandette) and drawn by Juan Ferreyra (Kiss Me Satan), the story picks up with Declan Thomas. After taking down the psychopathic Nimble Jack, Declan’s powers continue to grow and he will need them since a new maniac, Swivel, wants to take Nimble Jack’s place in Declan’s chaotic life. The series will debut on October 22nd, 2014.     A combination of two popular series, Hellboy and B.P.R.D. features a blast from the past with everyone’s favorite red demon going on his first mission in a small Brazilian village. What they uncover in a 16^th century Portuguese fortress is too terrifying to include in the description. The series will be written by Mike Mignola and John Arcudi. The illustrations will be done by Alexander Maleev. The comic will be on sale December 3rd, 2014.     Lady Killer features an ordinary family in the suburbs composed of a father, twin girls and their mother, who also happens to be a professional assassin. I wonder what she asks for on Mother’s day? The series will be written by Joëlle Jones (Madame Frankenstein) and Jamie S. Rich (Grendel, Madman Atomic Comics). The artwork is being handled by Jones as well. Lady Killer #1 will be on sale January 7th, 2015.     Dead Vengeance takes place in 1940. A body in a carnival comes to life. This sideshow body? John Doe, a radio commentator who was against Detroit’s Purple Gang and mysteriously disappeared in 1930 when everyone wanted him dead for reasons unknown. Written by Bill Morrison (Simpsons Comics) with artwork by Stéphane Roux (Birds of Prey, Zatanna), Dead Vengeance #1 will be released on January 21th, 2015.     Creators Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire) and Mike Johnson (Star Trek, Supergirl) take you to a dimension called the Meld in their new series Ei8ht. A chrononaut named Joshua is trapped here with no memory and only a mysterious voice to guide him. The series will begin February 2015.     A series where the real and unreal meet, Neverboy features an imaginary friend of the same name who wants to become real and an artist who wants to be one with the imaginary. Unfortunately, when this dreamer and dream meet their world will begin to collapse and they will have to be the ones to put it back together again before it’s too late. This new comic will be written by Shaun Simon (The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys) and the illustrations will be done by Tyler Jenkins (Peter Panzerfaust). The colorist for the series is Kelly Fitzpatrick. Neverboy #1 will be released on March 4th, 2015.     Written by Sweet Tooth creator Jeff Lemire, The Black Hammer spans multiverses. Abraham Slam, Col. Weird, Golden Gail, Barbalien, and Madame Dragonfly are some of the greatest heroes ever and they have been trapped on Black Hammer farms for ten years until the daughter of their fallen teammate Black Hammer decides to pay a visit. Artwork for the series will be handled by Dean Ormston (2000 A.D.). The story of these heroes will begin on March 11th, 2015.     In a CastAways-esque parody, PastAways is about a group of future explorers trapped in our past who are given immortality. Unfortunately, time is out of whack. Dinosaurs are appearing in Greece and future monuments are crashing into Toronto. Now, our last hope is this group of immortal explorers. The writer is Matt Kindt (Mind MGMT) and the artist is Scott Kolins (The Flash, The Avengers). It will be on sale March 18th, 2015.     Featuring America’s first militia, the Green Mountain Boys, and a couple traveling across New England, Rebels is one big battlefield. The series will be written by Brian Wood, the creator of the popular series DMZ, Northlanders and The Massive, alongside co-creator artist Andrea Mutti, the woman responsible for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The comic will have cover artist Tula Lotay and colorist Jordie Bellaire to complete the artwork. The release date will be sometime in April 2015.     Written by Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun, Deadpool Kills Deadpool), don’t expect the wacky humor you’d get from his Deadpool comics but a more supernatural feel in his comic Harrow County. Our protagonist, Emmy, was born when a witch was burned alive and never alone thanks to the numerous ghosts and goblins that tell her she has great power… and that everyone in Harrow County wants her to die. Friendly neighborhood. The artwork will be done by Tyler Crook. Harrow County will begin on April 8th, 2015.     The millionth time The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly has been given a homage in a title, Alabaster: The Good, the Bad, and the Birds is a continuation of Caitlin R. Kiernan’s Alabaster series which previous installments include Alabaster: Wolves and Alabaster: Grimmer Tales. A year after burning to death in a barn, Dancy Flammarion returns to stop killer twins who control a gaggle of ghouls (or would it be a pack?). The illustrator is Lady Killer Joëlle Jones. Alabaster: The Good, the Bad, and the Birds #1 will be on the shelves May 20th, 2015.     The final title is something we don’t talk about. Here we go again. Fight Club 2 will be written by Chuck Palahniuk with artwork done by Cameron Stewart (Catwoman, The Invisibles) and colors by David Mack. It will be released in the month of May, 2015.   Each of these series have some intriguing concepts and I’m interested in reading more of them. Lady Killer sounds like an interesting and fun concept as well as The Black Hammer, which I can’t help but gravitate to thanks to Sweet Tooth creator Jeff Lemire being at the helm.
