SDCC Saturday Scheduled Is Super Packed

Each year San Diego Comic Con seems to get bigger than the previous year, and the 2014 edition of the mega-convention will take place later this month (July 24th-27th). Over the years, more and more non comic-book entertainment has built a presence at SDCC while comic book properties have expanded to all sorts of other media outlets. So like recent years, there are events from all corners of geeky pop culture: movies, television, video games, toys, books, Internet shows, and yes even comic books.     Discussing the events and panels at the entire SDCC is probably more than anyone can handle in one story. However, like with any other multi-day comic convention, Saturday is the biggest day at SDCC, so let’s take a look at some of the coolest panels and events on Saturday this year at SDCC.   There are many panels related to popular television shows and television adaptations of comic properties. The Simpsons will be holding a 25th anniversary panel with Matt Groening and some of the other most important figures of the shows history. Other shows like True Blood, American Horror Story, and Family Guy will be holding panels. Despite their slow movie schedule, DC Entertainment has a number of television shows based on comic characters. Constantine, the popular Vertigo Comics series, is coming this fall, and its pilot is screening. A number of Warner Brothers/DC shows will be the focus of a panel that discusses Arrow, The Flash, Constantine, and screens the pilot of Gotham, the show set in Bruce Wayne’s home city during his childhood years.     Some of the movies-based panels on Saturday include discussions of the Indiana Jones series, a look back at Fight Club with director David Fincher and novel author Chuck Palahniuk, and sneak peeks at Mad Max: Fury Road and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Frank Miller’s follow up to his film adaptation of his popular noir-ish comic Sin City, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For will be the focus of a talk on Saturday. Probably the biggest film panel of the entire SDCC will occur at the Marvel Studios panel on Saturday. There is very little revealed about this panel, but discussion and possible reveals of future Marvel movies are likely as well as some clips from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy.     While it sometimes gets overshadowed these days at SDCC, comic books still have a huge presence on Saturday. A number of spotlights on important creators will take place, including Denny O’Neil, Jeff Smith, and J. Michael Stracyznski. IDW will hold a panel with the creators of Locke & Key, Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez. Image will host a panel with the creators of the smash comic Saga. Marvel holds a number of events, including the “Cup O’ Joe” discussion with Marvel Entertainment Chief Creative Officer (and former Editor-in-Chief) Joe Quesada. DC Comics will have a number of talks, with one of the most exciting covering the 75th anniversary of Batman.
