This Week on PS3 – July 19th, 2011

I haven't had much time to play games in the last week, because I've been too busy reading a book. Can you believe it? What is a guy who writes about video games doing reading a book? Anyway, there's nothing mindblowing coming out this week, though there are a couple things that look to be worth checking out.

In Stores
Again this week there are two new releases - both of which seem like they could potentially be interesting, but might end up just being crap. Call of Juarez: The Cartel is a sequel to the semi-popular shooting series that takes the action out of the wild west and into the modern day, with a story that will surely treat the subject of the crippling effect of dangerous drug cartels on the environment and people of Mexico with subtletly and respect. The other game is a tie-in with the latest big budget superhero movie, Captain America: Super Soldier. It seems to be going for the same style of combat as the highly successful Batman: Arkham Asylum, but that game didn't have to line up with a movie release, and I'm doubtful Super Soldier lives up to its standards. Stil, it could be fun.

On PSN
There are a handful of new games available for download, most notably Limbo, a port of the arty, brooding platformer that lit up 360s last year. You can also download Dead Block, which is obviously about zombies, or Fast Draw Showdown, a Move-enabled shooter. Two new NEOGEO Station games too: Baseball Stars 2 and The King of Fighters '95, which should be pretty self explanatory from their titles. Lastly, the import title Kyuiin, a scrolling shooter, is up for sale.

Demos
Two of this week's downloadable games, Limbo and Dead Block, have demos up for download if you're not sure about buying them just yet.

Add-Ons
Some significant content this week for significant prices. The third add-on pack for Fallout: New Vegas, "Old World Blues", is ready to be played, as is the Warrior Rain character for Mortal Kombat. There's the "Blood Symphony" map pack for Bulletstorm, and despite being released today Dead Block already has a map pack of its own. Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls, MotorStorm Apocalypse, and ModNation Racers also all have chunks of content available, along with Rock Band as always.
