The announcement of a fourth film in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise was a bit surprising, and for a while, it seemed unnecessary. However, we later learned that Jeremy Renner would not only co-lead the film with the franchise’s current staple Tom Cruise, but that he was also more or less in line to take up the reins for future installments. All of a sudden, this upcoming project — now tagged with the official title Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol — became much more interesting.
A trailer for “Ghost Protocol” has finally arrived. While there are some engaging action sequences and the excitement of new additions to the cast – particularly the aforementioned Renner and Paula Patton – it looks like your average action flick. However, we do see some moments of intrigue between Cruise and Renner that suggest a conflict between the two characters as the film’s plot progresses.
"Ghost Protocol" stars Cruise, Renner, Patton, Simon Pegg, Josh Holloway (Lost), Michael Nykvist (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and more. Brad Bird (The Incredibles) directs his first live-action film. It hits theaters on Dec. 16.
