Her name is Carol Ferris and she is the C.E.O of Ferris
Aerospace. A legacy her father, aerospace mogul Carl Ferris left her when he
perished in a plane crash. The best thing she ever did while in charge was
making the choice of hiring Hal “Asphalt Abs” Jordan. She does everything in
her power not to fall in love with him, but hey, he’s Hal “the best Green
Lantern” Jordan! What’s not to love? Soon Jordan discovers a ring and Carol is
absorbed into a series of misadventures.
Being the boss is hard and having a full blown crush on the
fearless, hunk-o-matic test pilot is even harder. Add to the fact that Jillian
"Cowgirl" Pearlman is stealing your man’s heart away and girl we got
problems. Enter the Zamarons, female members of the race known as the Maltusians
keepers of the Star Sapphire; they hear Carol’s longing towards the human
known as Hal “Thunder Buns” Jordan. To honor her broken heart, the Sapphires send
her a violet power ring, transforming her into one of the Star Sapphires.
"For hearts long lost and full of fright,
For those alone in blackest night,
Accept our ring and join our fight,
Love conquers all-- with violet light!"
When the Sapphires need a charge the ladies
recite that oath. Now a member of the Star Sapphires, she returns to Zamaron in time
to battle the invading Sinestro Corps. As she throws down with Sinestro the two of them are interrupted by
the Black Lantern Amon Sur.
This begins the gathering of ring bearers to combat the Darkest Night prophecy.
After that Blackest Night hits and shit get real, Carol fights Amon Sur. But the Star Sapphire central power battery was destroyed during the battle. So she hooks up
with the rest of the Lanterns and heads to Earth to throw down with Nekron and
his horde of Black Lanterns. Once defeated,
the events for Brightest Day begin but nobody cares because Brightest Day
sucked. The one thing that you need to
know is Carol loves Hal, always and forever.
So that’s what you get
when you take the main protagonist’s love interest and remove the tired cliché of
a damsel in distress. Give the powers of the hero; show her it’s cool to join a
gang. The best part of Ms. Ferris is she’s not annoying, she’s a strong female character
and can hold her own for the most part. Hell, she’s the strongest of the Star
Sapphires and there’s no shame in that--plus she’s hot!
