Alfonso Cuaron & JJ Abrams talk Believe

As the hype for Alfonso Cuaron’s film Gravity intensifies, NBC’s upcoming series Believe, which is co-created by Cuaron, is quickly becoming a much talked about and anticipated series of the season. The possible Oscar-winning, he already won the Golden Globe for directing the film, Cuaron was on hand, along with executive producer J.J. Abrams to discuss the new show at the Television Critic’s Association press tour. The series has already made waves with its struggle to stick with a show-runner, Dave Erickson and Mark Friedman, who co-wrote the pilot with Cuaron, both held the post before it came to current show-runner Jonas Pate’s hands. Abrams responded to questions about the seemingly troubling turmoil, "Whoever can do it… is the person who does it. This is not a cookie cutter show where you know exactly the person from something else they've done. It's a unique thing, so it was about finding the correct creative voice and it was clear we had it in the family, and luckily Jonas stepped up… the trick with a television show is it's public, so if it doesn't quite work, it seems like an issue. But it's creativity." Cuaron also made the point that, although they are taking a cinematic approach to the style and working hard to make it visually compelling, the show about the “unlikely relationship between Bo, a girl with supernatural powers, and Tate, the man who is sprung from prison to protect her from the nogoodniks who are trying to hunt her down,” per Deadline, "It's pretty much the story of a family." Believe premieres March 10 after the Voice, on NBC. Will you be tuning in?
