X-Men: First Class Affinity – Azazel

 X-Men First Class is only a few weeks away, and we here at Player Affinity want to give you the information you need before you go out and watch the movie.  Today I will talk about Azazel and his origin. Azazel is known in the comic book world as Nightcralwer’s biological father.  His first appearance was in Uncanny X-men in issue #428 during The Draco storyline, written by Chuck Austen.

According to his origin, Azazel is the leader of an ancient horde of demonic mutants from biblical times called the Neyaphem.  The Neyaphem, lead by Azazel fought a group of angelic mutants called the Cheyarafim. Upon being defeated Azazel and his horde were vanquished to another dimension. He may have been vanquished but Azazel was able to teleport for a short period of time, back to earth 616's dimension. His only hope of returning to earth was by impregnating women because his so that his offspring would share a connection to both dimensions.

One of the women that Azazel had a relations with was with Mystique, since Azael only desired to mate with women who had strange appearances and abilities.  He met Mystique in Germany, during this time; Mystique was married to a lord name Baron Christian Wagner. Not long after their encounter Mystique became pregnant with her son Kurt Wagner, who would later become the X-Man known as Nightcrawler.  Mystique fell madly in love with Azazel, and Azael also found himself in love with Mystique making her the only woman that he ever truly loved.  Shortly after his mission was complete, Azazel left Mystique, knowing that she would be safe in her human form.


A few months later Mystique gave birth to Nightcrawler, but due to the labor she lost concentration and accidentally revealed her true form. Mystique was outed as a demon and was chased away by an angry mob... becuase mobs did that back then.  Barely escaping, she tossed by Kurt in a ravine only to be saved by Azazel.

Aside from Nightcrawler, Abyss, and Kiwi Black, Azazel is believed to have several dozen other children, who were all mysteriously called to gather and sacrifice themselves on an Island known as the Isla Des Demonas.  This portal created by his children would bring his army to earth so they could destroy the Cheyarafirm, allowing the demonic mutants to once again live on earth. The mutant children found themselves forced to work together to create the portal almost as if they had no choice, but the X-Men had followed Nitghcrawler and eventually saved him. Once inside, Azazel took great pleasure in toying with the team, tricking the team into believing that he was the devil.

In the end Azazel was not able to free his forces because the portal had to be opened in an area where Cheyarafirm blood could not be found.  Thanks to Archangel the portal was destroyed and Azazel was vanished and has not been seen since.

Azazel has a huge list of abilities.  He can: teleport across interdimensional distances, generate bolts of paralyzing energy as well as destructive energy which causes disintegration and can disguise his appearance. He also knows a great deal about magic and can control the inferior minds of the beings that inhabit the Brimestone dimension.
