Just a few weeks prior to announcing its fall schedule, The CW network has finally made some early pick-ups for next season. Unsurprisingly the network’s biggest hit The Vampire Diaries made the cut as well as other teen dramas including 90210 and Gossip Girl. However, perhaps the biggest news for long-serving fans of the network comes with the renewal of Supernatural for a seventh season.
Back in March the producers of Supernatural teased that they were prepared for a seventh season, with former show-runner Eric Kripke saying, “We have some stuff cliffhanging at the end of season six, so hopefully, knock on wood, we have a season seven." The news of these early renewals, whilst good for some, does leave big question marks over some of the network’s other ventures.
With pilot shows undoubtedly looking for pick-ups, Nikita, One Tree Hill and cheerleading “drama” Hellcats all await confirmation of their fates. With Nikita sitting at a 0.92 on TVbytheNumbers renew/cancel index, following the more than likely cancelation of Hellcats, they suggested that “That would make the renewals of all the other current CW scripted shows a near certainty, unless the cast and crew of one decides to call it quits...”. So all hope may not be lost for the freshman drama.
