Sony and Team Ico have chosen to delay both the upcoming PS3
exclusive The Last Guardian and the
HD re-release of the Ico & Shadow of the Colossus
Collection which had been scheduled for holiday/spring 2011 releases respectively.
The official
PlayStation Blog spoke to the director of both games,
Fumito Ued, who confirmed the delay: “I
announced at last year’s Tokyo Game Show that the release timing of The Last
Guardian which is currently being developed would be holiday 2011. However, to
provide more challenging and better quality of content to users and to fulfill
First Party Studio’s obligations, I decided to postpone its release timing.”
The Last Guardian is a third-person
action/adventure/puzzle game that will be similar in style and gameplay to the developers’
two previous games Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. The game centres
around the friendship of a boy and a large bird like creature. Both of Team Ico’s
previous games were highly praised for their originality and unique gameplay, and
this delay will come as a blow to all those who have been eagerly
anticipating The Last Guardian. No
information has yet been given about the new release dates for the two titles,
other than sometime in 2012.
