Dragon’s Dogma is a new IP from CAPCOM and is set to arrive some time in early 2012.
The game is no small production,
with over three years of planning it is currently in its second year of
development, and CAPCOM will be hoping that it will stand up to their other
large franchises such as Resident Evil
and Devil May Cry.
Dragon’s Dogma will be an
open-world action adventure with a detailed story and mythology. Talking to the
Official PlayStation Blog the game’s director, Hideaki Itsuno, discussed some
of the games influences:
“When I was at junior high
school I was really taken in by The Lord of the Rings, so I’m sure that has had
a strong influence. You can expect to see a lot of those creatures from Greek
and Norse mythologies that fantasy fans will be familiar with.”
The battle system will be
varied, with three different character classes to choose from: Strider, Mage, and Fighter. One
of the fights that has been shown to the press involves a large griffin, which you can
attack with mêlée weapons as it flies, or get help from your three accomplices
known as Pawns.
With other aspects like a “
brand-new approach to multiplayer” and with
more people currently working on the game than any other at CAPCOM, there is no
doubt that Dragon’s Dogma will be a
game to look out for in 2012.
