While the next trip to Silent Hill is still a solo journey, there may be some room for friends – but only on Xbox Live Arcade.
In a translated interview from Italy’s Xbox 360 Magazine posted on Hell Descent, Radek Marek, art director on Silent Hill: Downpour, let it slip that while there are still no plans beyond a single-player campaign, “Konami are investigating a separate chapter devoted entirely to the multiplayer. We do not know the details but it should be an XBLA title that most players have to survive in the town of Silent Hill.”
This isn’t new territory for Konami, who have done multiplayer spin-offs of some of their franchises such as Metal Gear Online and Castlevania: Harmony of Despair. Fellow Japanese publisher Capcom has recently revealed they had great success with both Dead Rising 2: Case Zero and Dead Rising 2: Case West, which have prompted the publisher to look into expanding this idea with more franchises. It would be no surprise for another Japanese publisher to also consider offering smaller, downloadable experiences as well.
Silent Hill: Downpour is being developed by Vatra Games and scheduled for release this fall on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
