THQ has just announced a Collector's Edition for it's upcoming RTS, Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War II Retribution, as well as six "race packs". The collector's edition will allow you to get all the bonus items from each race pack, six race art cards, a poster, and a collector's box.
The more interesting side to this story, though, are the "race packs". Fans of a race can purchase one of the six race packs, but only through digital retailers and pre-order. Each race pack has 4 abilities and Wargear items that can be used in the singleplayer campaign. The Ork Pack is exclusive to Steam, and the Tyranid Pack is exclusive to THQ.com. The Space Marine, Chaos Space Marine, Eldar, and Imperial Guard race packs are available for pre-order at THQ.com and other digital distribution sites. After Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War II Retribution has launched, these race packs will be available from Steam for a "nominal fee". Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War II Retribution is set to release on the PC on March 1st, 2011.
