From the file of “Things That Cannot Possibly Be Real but We'll Talk About It Anyways!” comes an extreme rumor that longtime friends and collaborators Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci may be reteaming for the first time in years. Not so crazy right? The kicker of the rumor? Roger Friedman of Showbiz411 has it that the film to bring them together would be David O. Russell's adaptation of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.
When your brain has finished processing this concept, come back to us and remember that DeNiro and Pesci have a history that includes A Bronx Tale, Goodfellas, Raging Bull and personal favorite Casino. What would make more sense would be if DeNiro and Pesci were reteaming for Martin Scorsese's long in development true crime project The Irishman, based on the novel I Heard You Paint Houses.
But “Uncharted”? Really? Who would they play? DeNiro maybe as Sully (though no, not really) but where would Pesci fall? And what is in that script that would attract DeNiro and Pesci to a video game adaptation in the first place? Naturally, Showbiz411 does not have many details as to who they would play, which only adds to the argument that the rumor is likely false.
Still, best give you a heads up to the developing project, jokes and all. It should be noted another rumor flying around is that Russell (about to release his film The Fighter) may be courting his “Fighter” star Mark Wahlberg to take the role of Nathan Drake, so Nathan Fillion advocates better take to the streets if they wish to see this rumor squashed.
