Not to be content with the announcement of X-23 and Tron Bonne at the Tokyo Game Show, Capcom announced two more characters for the long-awaited Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. The characters, Wesker (of Resident Evil fame) and Spiderman, are welcome editions to the roster. Fan-favorite Spiderman and Wesker were announced with a gameplay video that shows how the characters fight.
This is Spiderman’s announcement video:
This is Wesker’s announcement video:
Wesker and Spiderman are both very quick characters and could be very interesting to fight with. Wesker appears in his Resident Evil 5 attire and maintains his powers and abilities from that game, down to the missile he throws at the end of a combo in the video. His special that counters Captain America’s charging star attack is also sure to be the bane of every aggressive player’s existence. Spiderman has not appeared to have changed as much, as he still favors quick punches and web based attacks. It seems like it would be very good to keep your opponent guessing.
The addition of these two characters brings the total to 20 fighters, about 10 short of the total projected by Capcom when the game was announced.
Here’s the updated roster:
Marvel: Captain America, Doctor Doom, Deadpool, Dormammu, Hulk, Iron Man, Spiderman, Super Skrull, Thor, Wolverine, and X-23 (a Wolverine clone)
Capcom: Amaterasu, Chris Redfield, Chun-li, Dante, Felicia, Morrigan, Ryu, Trish, Tron Bonne, Viewtiful Joe, and Wesker
The projected total of 30 means that we could see 10, or possibly more, new characters before the game launches next year. Personally I’m holding out that Cable will make a return from Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, and maybe he will actually be balanced this time.
