Kyle Chandler and Elle Fanning have been cast in J.J. Abrams’s top-secret upcoming science-fiction thriller Super 8. Chandler is most famous for his role in the television drama Friday Night Lights, for which he has received an Emmy nomination. Fanning stars in Sofia Coppola’s upcoming drama Somewhere, which won the prestigious Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. She also leads the upcoming Nutcracker film.
Chandler has been on television for quite some time, so breaking out into major film work is big news. Meanwhile, Fanning has been on the edge of a break through, so this should come as no surprise.
According to Vulture, the roles are still unknown. Actually, we hardly know anything about the film. A supposed casting call for what was rumored to be Super 8 hit the Internet, calling for two boys and a girl. If there’s any truth to this casting call, Fanning is most likely playing the girl mentioned. It has also led to speculation that the film centers on three siblings (the two boys and girl) happening to record alien footage.
The film is set for release next summer, so expect more casting announcements to be made soon.
