Noomi Rapace, the leading lady in the original The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo adaptation, has landed a role in Sherlock Holmes 2 alongside Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law. Although details about the story are being kept under wraps, we do know that Holmes will be fighting against his nemesis Moriarty, a role that has yet to be cast.
Rapace’s role is being kept a secret as well, but according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog, sources are saying that she will play a French gypsy. As far as other new characters, Mycroft, Holmes’ brother, will also appear in the film.
Rapace has shown a strong ability for getting into character. Lisbeth Salander, her character in “Dragon Tattoo,” bears almost no resemblance to the actress, yet she got into the role perfectly. One cannot help thinking that any role she serves in this project would work wonderfully alongside Downey Jr., Law, and any other actors who end up joining the project in the near future.
This will be Rapace’s first American film. It follows her widely publicized August trip to L.A. to discuss crossing over into American films. Warner Bros. wants to start producing the film before the year is over as the film is set for release on December 16, 2011.
