This one is a little too good/groan-inducing not to share. We already know that Spidey's love interest will not take the form of Mary Jane Watson (played by Kirsten Dunst in the previous films), leading to all kinds of speculation. This news traveled a long way. The Globe and Mail recently interviewed hockey player Mike Comrie, who has revealed that a script marked "Spider-Man" was spotted on his kitchen table, a table he shares with his wife, Hillary Duff. As such, ComicBookMovie.com speculates that Duff is auditioning for the illusive female love interest for Peter Parker in the upcoming reboot and that the character would likely be Gwen Stacey.
In more detail, the piece specifically states “the kitchen contains evidence of their professional lives .. .a script marked 'Spider-Man' sits on the table, with lines for a character simply called 'girl' highlighted in yellow.”
Given Duff's status, chances are it's not actually a big part. It also helps (her at least) that she is familiar with director Marc Webb, who directed her 2005 music video “Wake Up.” Could she be up for a part? Regardless of her involvement, it does not hurt the argument that Parker may end up falling for Gwen Stacey, much like in the earlier comics.
As of yet, there have been no official announcements on Duff auditioning for any part in the reboot, nor confirmation of who the female love interest will be.
But hey, there might be a chance Duff gets thrown off a bridge if cast as Stacey.
