Christmas has come early for the television dramas The Originals, The Tomorrow People, and Reign. The CW has given full season orders for all its freshman dramas. This comes to no surprise for The Originals, the Vampire Diaries spin off has been able to take advantage of the established fan base and has become the most successful new show for the network. Even without an established lead-in it has garnered the highest ratings out of the three dramas. Though the remaining two dramas have not brought in amazing ratings, they have maintained stable numbers throughout the season. While Reign has been the weakest performer and most likely to be axed, the period piece has been given a vote of confidence due to its digital performance as well as its gain of younger viewers.
CW president Mark Pedowitz states: “In just a few seasons, we have built a much stronger primetime schedule. Our on-air ratings are up year to year, and our digital viewing continues to grow exponentially. We’re excited about the creative momentum the producers have established for all three of our new series, and now our fans will have the chance to see the full stories unfold for them this season. With the additional episodes ordered, plus two new dramas and new reality for midseason, we’ll be able to continue our commitment to adding more original programming all year long.”
