A sequel to the cult film (and novel), American Psycho is headed to FX. It will be a drama series that will serve as a sequel to the events of the film. The film was released in 2000 and starred Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman, the anti-hero serial killing socialite living in New York City. He is a rich businessman and likes to take matters into his own hands, finding it easy and satisfying to kill.
The series is being presented by Lionsgate TV, whose partner, Lionsgate Films, produced the film version. Although the film was released in the year 2000, it was set in the 1980's. Bateman brought the music of the '80s in as part of the plot, showing his love for lesser appreciated groups of that era. The television series will be set in the present day, with Patrick Bateman now in his '50s, still operating as a serial killer. He is just as outrageous and sadistic as ever, even taking on an apprentice who will shortly become his equal. It is unclear who will play Patrick Bateman at this point, but the actor who does will certainly have some big shoes to fill after the incredible performance audiences saw Bale give in the film. This will certainly be something to look forward to as it goes into production.
