Good news MMA fans. EA Sports UFC is already shaping up very nicely and now we know of another fine addition. Female fighters will be in the game. It is only fair seeing as the UFC has featured female fighters since the start of this year with the inclusion of the Women’s Bantamweight division, but it is nice to see it confirmed as it could have been easy for them to not include them. Not only do they require different mechanics to the male fighters, but some people still haven’t fully got used to the idea of female fighters yet (Its 2013 people) and I’m sure there will be unwarranted criticism for the move. Something which I applaud EA for not shying away from.
Of course the main reason for this is the current Women's Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. After only one UFC fight she is already one of the biggest homegrown stars the sport has seen and that looks to only continue. Ronda will coach the new season of The Ultimate Fighter opposite rival Miesha Tate (which starts tonight) as well as appearing in the next Fast and Furious film. Getting Ronda in the game was a must and will make the game even more anticipated by fight fans. Other female fighters to feature should include Miesha Tate who fights Rousey for the title in December, Liz Carmouche, Sarah Kaufman and Sara McMann.
UFC President Dana White said, “Since we added the Women’s Bantamweight division earlier this year, the women have impressed everyone. The fights are always exciting, Ronda Rousey is as talented as any champion in the UFC and her rivalry with Miesha Tate is one of the most intense in UFC history. The female division has become a huge part of the UFC and fans will now be able to experience fighting with them in the game.”
EA Sports UFC launches in Spring 2014 for both Xbox One and Playstation 4. It will be the first UFC game made by EA since they acquired the license from THQ. After a mixed bag of UFC games from THQ, hopefully EA can invigorate the genre just like they did with it’s incredible Fight Night games.
